On Friday 22 May the Cairngorms National Park Authority granted planning permission for strengthening works for the Cairngorm Funicular viaduct. Acting on behalf of Highlands & Islands Enterprise and working with a team of specialist consultants, our Glasgow Planning team has provided strategic and detailed planning advice on this complex project, which is the UK’s highest railway.

The Cairngorm funicular, closed since September 2018 due to structural problems,  was opened in 2001 at a final cost of £26m, connects a base station with a restaurant and wider ski centre, 1,097m (3,599ft) up Cairn Gorm mountain near Aviemore.
